The screenshots looked amazing, the game was gonna be a stunner. The game was to be based on a Dragons Lair type perspective, with movie style gameplay.... very advanced and ahead of its time for 8-bits.

The game had countless adverts plastered around the pages of magazines such as CVG. All we ever saw were the speccy looking cartoon shots, which still looked good. But no previews or reviews were ever seen of the game.

Scooby-Doo (Laser Disc) went unreleased as the programmers came to the conclusion that what they were attempting was, at that time, just not possible on the 8-bit machines.

Gargoyle Games were then given a short time limit to quickly program a Scooby-Doo platformer to save the licence. It was obviously rushed just to get something out there, and sadly it was very poor.

It is rumoured that the super-duper Dragons Lair-esque game was apparently scrapped before the C64 version was started (or at least before it got anywhere substantial). "it was judged unviable with the Speccy coders ran out of memory", according to Jason Kelk.

Thanks to the great spectrum GTW'esq site, "Games that time forgot", I have been able to supply some scans and shots for people to look at.

The articles on the site actually supply some names, which hopefully GTW can use to track down, and see if we can see what was actually made of the game. Hopefully it still exists in some form.

Even Scooby's nephew 'Scrappy' couldn't save him...
