The
unofficial sequel to Great Giana Sisters
had a complete change of graphic style to the original, but unfortunately
did not survive from the wrath of Nintendo's lawyers.
At
the end of the day they thought it was still a Mario clone - the
console company put the kybosh on this one even before it hit
the shelves.
This
game had a little news snippet in Zzap 64 once, and even though
there are elements of the Mario game.... I didn't think it was
worth banning it. I've seen worse offenders copying Mario on the
c64 and getting away with it. This was a little harsh by Nintendo...
but ah well, we can still enjoy the delights of this game, which
is good... but not as good as Giana.
An
interesting screenshot I found in Zzap64 recently, was of this
game, and I decided to scan it in for you to see. The game *was*
to feature Giana sprites and even their names, but this was never
to be... which explains the graphic change that the company were
forced to make to be certain that Nintendo would not bother them.
The game was to be called "Giana 2 - Arther and Martha in
Future World", but the game was renamed to "Hard And
Heavy" to avoid linking to the previous game.
The
game has been fully completed, but sadly it never made it out.
The company was under so much pressure after the fiasco of Giana,
that they decided to keep it underwraps, and sneaked it out for
the public.
Giana
in a iron mask... "Still looks like Mario", they said...
Frank.
